How to pay for DigitalOcean with a virtual dollar card
DigitalOcean bills servers and other cloud resources by usage, in US dollars, and the monthly invoice goes to the card on file. With a virtual Visa card holding a dollar balance you pay that invoice and decide how high it can go.

How do you pay for DigitalOcean with a dollar card?
On DigitalOcean you create virtual servers, managed databases, storage and other resources, and pay for what you use in the period. Usually the month of usage becomes an invoice that is charged to the card saved on the account. When you add the card and when you see the invoice, check that the amounts are shown in US dollars.
Guarapay issues a virtual prepaid Visa card with a US-dollar balance in about two minutes, in the Guarapay app or the Telegram mini app @guarapay_bot. The card works online wherever Visa cards are accepted. Some merchants may decline cards according to their own rules, so check in the app that the first charge was approved.
How do you add the card to DigitalOcean step by step?
- Open the Guarapay app or the Telegram mini app @guarapay_bot and create an account.
- Issue the virtual card; the issue fee is US$ 10 on Standard or US$ 100 on Premium.
- Top up the amount you expect to spend in the month, a margin and the US$ 0.25 per-purchase fee, using a Visa or Mastercard bank card in your own name or USDT.
- In the browser, sign in to your DigitalOcean account and open the billing area.
- Add the card: number, expiry date, security code and the name and address as shown in the app.
- Check on the screen that amounts are in US dollars and save the card as your payment method.
- Follow the notification for each charge in the app, which arrives right away.
How does the DigitalOcean usage invoice work?
Because billing is by usage, the invoice changes from month to month: one more server, a backup or more traffic changes the total. In the DigitalOcean dashboard you can follow the usage of the current month and the estimate of the next invoice.
DigitalOcean lets you set billing alerts in the billing area. Pick an amount and get a notice when usage goes past it; that gives you time to top up the card or turn off what you do not need.
How much does it cost to pay for DigitalOcean with the card?
The invoice amount is what DigitalOcean calculates from your usage; Guarapay does not change it. On the card side, you top up the invoice amount, the 2% top-up fee is taken at top-up, and each approved charge costs US$ 0.25.
On Premium the top-up fee is 1%. There is no monthly card fee, so months without use cost nothing. If you top up with a local bank card, your bank may add its own taxes and exchange rate; with USDT the top-up lands directly in dollars.
How do you keep a balance for the invoice every month?
Keep the invoice estimate on the card plus a margin for changes and the per-purchase fee. If the balance is too low, the payment is declined and the money stays on your balance; check in the DigitalOcean dashboard what happens to the account when an invoice stays unpaid.
The card has a monthly limit of US$ 10,000 on Standard and US$ 100,000 on Premium. In the app you set a lower monthly cap and a per-purchase cap, so a server you forgot to turn off cannot take more than you planned.
Why was my DigitalOcean payment declined?
- Insufficient balance: it must cover the invoice and the US$ 0.25 per-purchase fee.
- Caps in the app: the monthly or per-purchase cap may be lower than the invoice.
- Frozen card: unfreeze it in the app before trying again.
- A name or billing address on the account that differs from what the app shows.
- After fixing it, try paying again from the billing area and, if it still fails, contact support through the Telegram bot in the app or on the website.
What mistakes are most common?
- Topping up only the amount of the previous month, with no margin for variable usage.
- Not setting billing alerts in DigitalOcean.
- Leaving servers and backups running after a project ends.
- Freezing the card and forgetting that the invoice for the month will still be charged.
