Card declined on an international website: why it happens and what to do
When a foreign website declines your card, the reason is almost always simple: balance, a limit, a frozen card, billing details or a pending confirmation. A decline does not take money from your balance, and the app shows why it happened.

Why was my card declined on an international website?
In most cases a purchase is declined because the balance does not cover the amount plus the purchase fee, a limit has been reached, the card is frozen, the billing details do not match or the 3-D Secure confirmation was not completed. Sometimes the merchant itself declines the card under its own rules.
The Guarapay virtual card is a prepaid Visa with a US-dollar balance and works online wherever Visa cards are accepted. Because it is prepaid, it only spends what is in the balance: there is no credit to cover the difference.
A declined purchase is not charged, and neither is the purchase fee. The money stays in your balance.
Why were several retries in a row declined? A real case
Repeated attempts are declined for the same reason as the first one until that reason is fixed. A real case shows how this works.
A new customer topped up the card and paid a US$ 20 subscription. The purchase was approved, and US$ 20 plus the US$ 0.25 fee per approved purchase left the balance. The same US$ 20 charge was then tried five more times, and all five were declined for insufficient balance.
The reason: what was left in the balance was less than US$ 20 plus US$ 0.25. None of the declines took money from the card, and no retry could go through without a top-up. Two takeaways: before retrying, check the history to see whether the first purchase was already approved, and if the decline is for balance, top up the purchase amount plus US$ 0.25.
What are the most common reasons for a decline?
- Insufficient balance: it has to cover the purchase amount plus US$ 0.25 per approved purchase.
- Your own caps: the monthly cap or the per-purchase cap you set in the app may be below the amount.
- Card limit: the monthly limit is US$ 10,000 on Standard and US$ 100,000 on Premium.
- Frozen card: while it is frozen, every purchase is declined; unfreeze it in the app with one tap.
- Billing name or address mismatch: enter them at checkout exactly as they appear in the app.
- Unconfirmed 3-D Secure: when the store asks for confirmation, the code appears in the app and has to be entered on the payment page.
- Merchant rules: some websites decline cards under their own rules even when everything is fine on the card side.
Where can I see the decline reason in the app?
- Open the Guarapay app or the Telegram mini app @guarapay_bot.
- Go to the History tab.
- Use the Declined filter to see only the purchases that did not go through.
- Each declined purchase shows its reason, for example insufficient balance, card frozen or monthly limit reached.
- Fix the reason shown, and only then try to pay again.
Does retrying the payment many times help?
No: repeating the same purchase without changing anything leads to the same decline. Balance, limits, a frozen card and billing details do not change by themselves between attempts.
There is also no need to keep trying for fear of losing money: declines are not charged. Check the reason in the history, fix it and try once.
The exception is when the history says the bank did not get the answer in time or asks you to try later: then one more attempt after a few minutes is usually enough.
Checklist: what to check before paying again
- In History, was the first purchase not approved? If it was, do not pay again.
- Does the balance cover the purchase amount plus US$ 0.25?
- Are your monthly cap and per-purchase cap in the app above the amount?
- Is the card unfrozen?
- Do the billing name and address at checkout match the app?
- If the store asked for confirmation, did you use the 3-D Secure code shown in the app?
- Are the amount and currency on the payment page what you expected?
When should I contact support?
Contact Guarapay support when the reason in the history is unclear, when everything on the checklist is right and the purchase is still declined, or when you see a charge you do not recognise.
Support answers on Telegram and WhatsApp, through the links in the app and on the website. Give the date, the amount and the store name shown in the history; it speeds up the answer.
If the merchant declines under its own rules, support cannot change that; in that case contact the website itself or use another payment method it accepts.

FAQ
Does a declined purchase take money from my balance?
No. A declined purchase is not charged, and neither is the purchase fee; the money stays in the card balance.
Why was it declined if I had exactly the purchase amount?
Each approved purchase costs US$ 0.25, deducted together with the purchase, so the balance has to cover the amount plus US$ 0.25.
Where do I see why my card was declined?
In the app, in the History tab with the Declined filter: each declined purchase shows its reason, such as insufficient balance or card frozen.
Is it worth retrying the payment several times in a row?
No; until the reason is fixed, every new attempt is declined the same way, so check the reason in the history, fix it and try once.
What is the 3-D Secure confirmation in the app?
When a store asks to confirm the purchase, the code appears in the Guarapay app; use it only on the payment page and never share it with anyone.
How do I top up after a decline?
In the app, with a Visa or Mastercard bank card in your own name or with USDT; there is no minimum top-up.
