Free trial with a virtual card: how to avoid surprise charges

Updated on October 23, 2026

Many services ask for a card to unlock a free trial and start charging on their own when it ends. With a virtual Visa card holding a limited balance, you decide the most that can be charged, but only cancelling with the service really ends the plan.

Free trial with a virtual card: how to avoid surprise charges

Why do free trials ask for a card?

Subscription services usually ask for the card at the start of the trial to confirm that a payment method exists and to renew by themselves when the free period ends. Some companies run a low-value verification or place a temporary hold on the card; the rules and timing change from service to service.

Guarapay issues a virtual prepaid Visa card with a US-dollar balance in about two minutes, in the Guarapay app or the Telegram mini app @guarapay_bot. The card works online wherever Visa cards are accepted. Some services may decline prepaid or virtual cards for trials according to their own rules, so check in the app that the verification was approved.

How do you test a service with the card step by step?

  1. Open the Guarapay app or the Telegram mini app @guarapay_bot and create an account.
  2. Issue the virtual card; the issue fee is US$ 10 on Standard or US$ 100 on Premium.
  3. Read the trial terms to see how much will be charged after the free period, and when.
  4. Top up the price of a single period plus the US$ 0.25 per-purchase fee, using a Visa or Mastercard bank card in your own name or USDT.
  5. On the trial sign-up page, enter the card number, expiry, security code, name and billing address as they appear in the app.
  6. Put the trial end date in your calendar, two days ahead.
  7. If you do not want to continue, cancel with the service before that date and keep the cancellation confirmation.

Does freezing the card cancel the trial?

No. Freezing the card or leaving it with no balance only makes the next charge decline; the contract with the service continues. Depending on its rules, the service may suspend your account, retry the charge or record the amount as a debt.

The correct way to stop paying is to cancel on the account page of the service itself. Use the card as an extra safeguard against a charge bigger than expected, not as a way to cancel.

How much does it cost to test a service with the card?

The price after the trial is what the service shows in its terms; Guarapay does not change it. On the card side, you top up the price of one period, the top-up fee (2% with USDT, 5% with a bank card) is taken at top-up and each approved charge, including an approved verification, costs US$ 0.25.

On Premium the USDT top-up fee is 1% (by bank card it stays 5%). There is no monthly card fee. If you top up with a local bank card, your bank may add its own taxes and exchange rate; with USDT the top-up lands directly in dollars.

The monthly limit of the card is US$ 10,000 on Standard and US$ 100,000 on Premium. In the app, set the per-purchase cap slightly above the price of the service.

Why was my trial sign-up declined?

  • Insufficient balance: it must cover the service verification and US$ 0.25 per purchase.
  • Caps in the app: the monthly or per-purchase cap may be lower than the amount requested.
  • Frozen card: unfreeze it in the app before trying again.
  • A name or billing address that differs from what the app shows.
  • Service rule: some services do not give free trials to prepaid or virtual cards, and that does not depend on the card.
  • Try again after a few minutes and, if it still fails, contact support through the Telegram bot in the app or on the website.

FAQ

Can I start a free trial with a virtual card?

Usually yes, as long as the service accepts the card, and the Guarapay card works wherever Visa is accepted. Some services may decline cards according to their own rules, so check the approval in the app.

Does an empty card balance cancel the trial?

No. The charge will be declined, but the plan stays active until you cancel with the service. Cancel before the trial ends.

Is the free trial charged to the card?

It depends on the service. Some charge nothing, others run a low-value verification or a temporary hold. Read the terms before you confirm.

How do I top up the balance?

In the app, with a Visa or Mastercard bank card in your own name or with USDT, with no minimum amount.

Is there a monthly fee for the card?

No. You pay the issue fee of US$ 10 (US$ 100 on Premium), the top-up fee of 2% with USDT (1% on Premium) or 5% with a bank card, and US$ 0.25 per approved purchase.
